The Sealed Envelope Method: How It Actually Works

At your anatomy scan or gender scan, tell the sonographer you want the gender sealed in an envelope - not told to you verbally. Most sonographers are very familiar with this request in 2025. They write the gender on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope before you leave the room.

That envelope then goes to a trusted third party - your balloon artist, your cake baker, or us. They open the envelope, prepare your reveal product in the correct colour, and return it to you without telling you the result. You receive a sealed cannon or box. You fire it on the day. You do not know until that moment.

Protecting Against Human Leaks

• Tell as few people as possible. Every person who knows is a potential leak. If possible, nobody knows except the person loading the cannon (us).
• Do not tell the family member who cannot keep a secret. Every family has one. You know exactly who this is. They do not need to know. They find out when everyone else does.
• Do not tell your partner if you want a genuine joint surprise. The sealed envelope means neither of you knows. This produces the most emotionally authentic reveals.
• Keep the loaded cannon out of sight until the moment. Store it in a bag or box where nobody can look at or pick it up. Curiosity leads to accidental reveals.

Accidental Reveals and How to Prevent Them

The most common accidental reveals we hear about: the powder leaking slightly during transport (visible colour at the tip of the cannon), the box arriving with a damaged corner, or someone who was in the ultrasound room letting it slip under pressure from a grandparent.
